Art House was founded in 2011 by Samantha Palmeri and Dawn McDonnell, two New York City painters endeavoring to create an art community in Manahawkin, NJ. Both are graduates of the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, and both relocated to New Jersey several years ago to raise their families.

Dawn McDonnell has a BFA degree in Illustration, and a Masters degree in early childhood education. Before opening the Art House, Ms. McDonnell worked for several textile companies; as an artist representative; and maintained her own business as a mural painter.
Samantha Palmeri is a recipient of a 2011 Individual artist fellowship from the New Jersey Council on the Arts and the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation. An active force in the cultural community, Ms. Palmeri was a teaching artist for over five years and the owner of Catherine Street Gallery in Staten Island, NY from 1999-2001. She has exhibited her paintings in New York and New Jersey. Along with the Art House, Ms. Palmeri is the founding director of The Intersection, a local performing artist group in Manahawkin, NJ.
